Biography
WILL BRUMLEY is a writer originally from Lawrence, Kansas. In 2025, he graduated from the Written Arts program at Bard College, where he studied fiction. His senior project, a novel that explores queer legacy, spaces, and the impact of HIV/AIDS on modern life was given Honors.
As a playwright, he was a 2021-2022 Playwrights Realm Writing Fellow, where he developed his play Pulling Leather: A Queer Rodeo Fantasia over nine months, culminating in a presentation for The Playwrights Realm’s 2022 Ink’d Festival. The play was also a finalist for the Terrence McNally New Works Incubator (2025), the Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Conference (2018), and part of the Play Lab at the Valdez Last Frontier Theatre Conference (2021). The Clinic (2019 O’Neill Semi-Finalist) has been performed in 18 benefit readings across the United States throughout 2019-2020, raising over $14,000 for reproductive rights organizations. It was featured in American Theatre Magazine. Other plays include Dollar Store Jesus (2020 O’Neill Semi-Finalist) and Tiny Feminist. Williamsburg! The Musical, written with musicians Brooke Fox and Kurt Gellersted was a 2007 NYC Fringe Overall Excellence Award winner and called “an absolute hit” (WFUV).
Will’s work has been developed in writing groups at The Playwrights Realm (2022-2025), Bushwick Starr (2021), Primary Stages’ ESPA (2011-2020), and The Vineyard Theatre (2014) in New York and Theatre 503, Soho Theatre, and Squint Theatre in London.
In 2024, he participated in the group show “a community of individuals” at Bushel Collective curated by artist HD Phelps-Lipton.
Having lived in New York City for over two decades, he is currently based in Hudson, New York.
